Not the Way to Do This Type of Announcement....

But I am not up to calling everyone.

My husband, Frank Soby died yesterday afternoon.

Thursday was our 37th wedding anniversary.  I had wanted to go out to dinner but he was too weak so I just threw a pizza in the oven.  As I was helping him to bed it appeared to me that he was having a stroke. I called EMS and they took him to Beumont Hospital (he said that the EMS guys were great)

They ended up putting him on a ventilator Saturday morning but the prognosis was that he would never leave the hospital so he was taken off the ventilator that afternoon.   He died soon after.

He had been recovering well from his bypass surgery in September until about February and had been getting weaker and weaker since then with a number of falls.   I know he never wanted to get to the point that he was bed ridden but was quickly reaching that point.

I will miss him.

Cancelled Reunion

This last Saturday was supposed to be the Lolli Family Reunion in Middletown Ohio.  It has been held the last Saturday in July at Armco Park every year since I believe 1984.  This year it was cancelled due to the Covid 19 and primarily for fact that my Uncle and Aunt in Idaho had the virus.  They had been planning on coming to the reunion.

But my Uncle Paul died last Monday from the virus.  He is the last of the generation of our parents.  The following picture is of the four brothers and sisters from a previous reunion.

This is my favorite picture of my Uncle Paul, taken when he was in the Air Force.

Even though I didn't see my Uncle very often, I would see him when he would come to visit my dad before the Ohio reunion.

I will remember that each year he would come with some outrageous statement on his tshirt.  Below is an example.  This shirt says it all...

I will miss him.

Almost a Year to Finish This Scarf

Last summer I went to the weaving workshops held in Holland Michigan my the Michigan guild.  Attended a workshop on deflected double weave.   Since I don't regularly like to weave on my table loom I let the scarf the I started on it after the samples, languish.  Was supposed to attend another workshop in March so had to get the scarf off the loom.  Of course - the workshop was cancelled, but I finally finished the scarf.  I learned a new technique and both ends of the scarf have two layers, one end black over white and the other end white over black.  Of course that means twice as many ends to twirl into fringe.  I like that the front and back of the scarf looks so different in this technique.

Birthday Thank You

Belatedly,  thank you for the birthday wishes last Thursday.   Seems the less you do - the less you want to do.

Found this picture of me last week at what is likely my second birthday (counting the candles).  Good to remember when you could have everyone together for your birthday.  Can't believe me and my mom in matching aprons.

My birthday wish was a simple one - Chinese carryout (I NEVER COOK ON MY BIRTHDAY)  Who would have known it would have been so hard.  My favorite Chinese restaurant in Royal Oak had been open for carry-out but they have since closed.  Even the neighborhood carryout place was closed.  Why would a carryout only place be closed.  Is there such a stigma to Chinese due to this virus.  I know the chain places were open but I don't like to go to chain places if I can help it.  So by the end of the day I got myself in a funk.  Its funny how something little can get you down - even when you should consider yourself lucky.

Stay safe everyone.

Easter Remembrances

Still sorting pictures.  I found these this week which is timely

This is me.  I don't know if it at my grandparents farm in Ohio or at my Aunt Carries farm which I believe was in Novi.

When I was growing up my grandmother (mothers mother) always made a lamb shaped cake.  That custom was continued by my mother.  This is my nephew Chris (who was the first grandchild) examining the desert table at my parents house.
And here is me in what was likely my new Easter hat and outfit.  I would have been in high school - the date is hard to read but I believe it was 1968.

About to Go Down a Black Hole?

I was supposedly cleaning my home office and moved a box of old address books of my mom's and dads.  Unfortunately I opened it and looked at my dads book from world war II.

Saw a S. Lolli - with an address of Richmond, Virgina.  I am not aware of any Lolli relatives in Virginia.

Went to Ancestry.com and found a Sense Lolli at 1721 Ingram Ave Richmond Virginia.  Age 54,  born May 27, 1887 in Telamo.

Are any of my Lolli relatives aware of such a person?  I guess the search begins!!!!

(ANYTHING to not clean any more!)

Before the Current Melt

In the 40s today so the snow is melting - again. The picture is from our last snow.   I know most people don't like the snow - but if it must - is should stay around so you can go skiing or snowshoeing.   This winter is snows - then melts.
