Day 2 Photo

Continuing with my Uncle Albert - his wedding with Pat.

Day One

Right now it seems an insurmountable task to go through the multiple boxes of photos that I have from my dad's apartment.  But it is important to me that I identify, scan and organize the old photos.  So I am going to try to do at least one photo a day - until I get to sick of this (or my readers get sick of seeing them).

This is my dads older brother Albert.  I assume it is his high school senior year picture.

Not all Amvets

Glad I went through this box instead of just tossing.

I have been spending the past week and a half cleaning out my dads apartment.  My dad loved taking pictures.  I agreed that I would take the multiple boxes of pictures and begin going through, sort, throw and scan.

Tonight I decided to attack the box labeled Amvets.  Both my parents were very active with this organization traveling with their "group" across the country.  I pulled a few pictures that included my parents, but I must have throws hundreds of pictures.

But to my surprise - In a pack labeled for a convention in Ohio, was a picture of my mom and dad along with his sister Louise and her husband Dick along with my dad's brother along with his wife Phyllis.

Anthony Lolli 1925-2014

This picture is one of my favorite on my dad - Anthony Lolli.  It was taken a number of years ago when he traveled to Italy with my brother Jim, his wife Carol and my nephew Chris.   Forcella is the town in Italy where my dad's father was born.  

My dad died Friday surrounded by his three children, all five of his grandchildren and one of his 5.5 great grandchildren, and a number of other people including his brother.  We believe he was waiting until his brother arrived from Idaho since he died soon after he arrived.

30 Flights of Stairs

Thats what my Fitbit said I did today.  It must be wrong but now that I am sitting here with my feet up, my legs feel like I could have done that many.

Of Fridays I volunteer at the weaving shop at Greenfield Village.  A lot of what I do takes me up and down the stairs.  Last week I recorded 10 flights, the week before 5.  Since I have had this thing - about a month now - the most stairs I ever did was 15 in one day.

So looking at the 30 - you can tell I didn't have the best day I have ever had working on the Jacquard loom.  When there is a mistake you need to go upstairs and reset it and then try to go back to a "good point".   Today was a day of MANY mistakes that I could not get back to the correct point.  Once I finally did I decided it was time to cut my losses and go home - before I had to go up and down those stairs again.

10,000 Steps

This is going to be harder than I thought.  I purchased a FitBit to begin tracking my activity.  Today was the first day I wore it.  The standard according to FitBit - and also a physician I had been seeing, is at least 10,000 steps a day.

Today was my day to volunteer at Greenfield Village.   I do not go to the gym on those days since I usually spend most of the day on my feet and also do a lot of walking and stairs and come home exhausted.  I assumed - no problem with that standard.

Boy was I wrong.  Got home and I had only done 7,000+ steps (it must be measuring wrong).  So after dinner I ended up going for a half hour walk to make the 10,000.  

This is going to be harder than I thought.

The New Loom Has Been Ordered

It is an AVL Workshop Loom.  I have been thinking about one for at least a year and I finally ordered it on Friday.

It is a CompuDobby loom (for the non-weavers out there - you design on your computer and the computer determines which shafts to raise.

It has 24 shafts (my current looms have 4 and 8 shafts) - so it will allow me to do much more complicated patterns.

It is labeled as a workshop loom and advertised as being able to "travel", but I looked at the video on taking it apart and it looks like to much work for me.  

I would have loved a wider loom but space is at a premium.  Its weaving width is only 24 inches which is not as wide as my 8 shaft loom but …. since I decided to keep my 8 shaft loom, this loom needs to go into the space that my 4 shaft loom is in so I had to buy something small.

After this loom arrives - not until October, I will sell my 4 shaft Dorsett loom.

For the weavers out there - I did not purchase the sectional beam - should I have?  The guy at AVL said that most of there sales are of sectional beams but I have never used a sectional beam and was not sure about it on a loom of this size.  Any opinions?

Right now I am excited about getting this (but not about putting it together once it comes).
